In the ongoing Boxing Day Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Australia posted a total of 318 runs in their first innings. However, it wasn’t just the batsmen who contributed to this score. Surprisingly, the “extras” provided by Pakistan’s bowlers turned out to be the second-highest contributor to Australia’s total.
Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer for Australia, contributing 63 runs off 155 balls. Following his innings, the extras provided by Pakistan’s bowlers added significant runs to Australia’s score.
Pakistan‘s bowlers conceded a total of 52 runs in extras during Australia’s first innings. This included 15 wides, 20 byes, and 15 leg-byes. Notably, this was the highest number of extra runs conceded by a team in a single innings at the MCG.
Despite the extras, Pakistan’s bowlers also had their moments in the match. Aamer Jamal was particularly impressive, taking 3 wickets. Other bowlers like Shaheen Afridi, Mir Hamza, Hasan Ali, and Salman Agha also made valuable contributions to restrict Australia to 318 runs.
Pakistan, who faced a heavy defeat in the first Test in Perth, are aiming to make a strong comeback in this match. With the series on the line, they will be looking to put up a competitive performance and level the series against Australia.
