In a dramatic turn of events during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan was struck on the neck by a bouncer from Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ pacer Shamar Springer. 

The incident occurred on August 30 in a match between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

Azam Khan, who walked out to bat in the 10th over, was facing a challenging over. 

He attempted to pull a short delivery from Springer but was unable to fully connect with the ball.

Instead, the bouncer struck him on the shoulder and then the neck, causing him to fall to the ground in pain. 

The delivery crashed into the stumps, resulting in an unusual dismissal. After receiving immediate medical attention from the physio, Khan was assisted off the field and was dismissed for a single-digit score of nine runs from nine balls.

Warriors Secure Win Despite Injury Scare

Despite Khan’s unfortunate dismissal, the Guyana Amazon Warriors managed to secure a thrilling victory by three wickets.

The match saw a crucial 16-ball 32 cameo from Romario Shepherd and last-over heroics from Dwaine Pretorius against Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir.

These performances led the Warriors to a successful run chase, finishing at 80/7 in 19.4 overs.
