Bangladesh Optimistic About Taskin Ahmed’s Recovery Ahead of T20 World Cup Opener

Bangladesh’s hopes for a successful T20 World Cup campaign have received a significant boost as they express confidence in the recovery of pace bowler Taskin Ahmed. The right-arm pacer, who sustained a displaced fracture in the rib region on the right side, is expected to be available for Bangladesh‘s opening match against Sri Lanka.

Taskin, currently traveling with the team for the ongoing three-match T20I series against the USA, has been undergoing a rehabilitation program in the USA. Despite missing the first two games of the series and the upcoming third match, Taskin’s progress towards recovery has been encouraging.

Chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Debashish Chowdhury, provided positive updates on Taskin’s recovery following an MRI scan conducted on May 23. “Taskin’s improvement is very good and satisfying. He is going through a rehabilitation process and undergoing gym training,” said Chowdhury. “He is not having any problem with running, and we will slowly introduce him to short run-up bowling and later increase the intensity.”

Chowdhury further added, “We are hopeful he will be available from the opening game of the World Cup if he continues to progress in this manner.”

In anticipation of Taskin’s potential absence, paceman Hasan Mahmud was included in the squad for the T20I series as a reserve player. However, with Taskin’s recovery showing promising signs, Bangladesh remains optimistic about fielding their full-strength squad for the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup campaign kicks off against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, where they aim to start their journey on a positive note.

Squad Update:

  • Bangladesh’s 15-member squad for the ongoing T20I series against the USA includes Taskin Ahmed, who is undergoing rehabilitation.
  • Hasan Mahmud serves as a reserve player in case Taskin is unable to recover in time for the T20 World Cup.

As Bangladesh prepares for the global tournament, Taskin’s potential return adds depth and experience to their bowling lineup, offering a significant boost to their chances of success in the competition.
