BCCI take over KL Rahul’s injury management, LSG skipper likely to miss a few games

In a heart-wrenching development that could potentially deal a significant blow to Team India’s prospects in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, reports have emerged that the injury sustained by KL Rahul during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season is, on initial examination, alarmingly severe. The news has sent shockwaves rippling through the cricketing fraternity, with fans and analysts alike anxiously awaiting further updates on the extent of Rahul’s injury and the impact it may have on his availability for the critical upcoming fixture.

How did the injury happen?

KL Rahul, aged 31, has reportedly sustained a grievous hamstring injury while valiantly attempting to halt a ball during an intense match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, May 1, in the city of Lucknow. The harrowing incident forced him to immediately depart the field, wincing in acute agony.

Despite his valiant efforts to soldier on, Rahul was only able to come out to bat at the fall of the ninth wicket, in what must have been an excruciatingly painful experience. Regrettably, Rahul’s valorous efforts could not save his team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), from a disappointing defeat, as they fell short of their target of 127 runs by 18 runs. This news has set the cricketing world abuzz, with fans and experts alike wondering if Rahul’s absence from the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia could potentially dash India’s chances of lifting the prestigious trophy.

BCCI take over Rahul’s case

In a prudent move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken full charge of KL Rahul’s injury case. The BCCI and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) sources have informed Cricbuzz that the decision regarding his further participation will be left to the esteemed medical team of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) situated in Bengaluru. As a contracted player of the Indian team, it is only fitting that the NCA, which is renowned for its exceptional medical expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, take the lead in managing Rahul’s rehabilitation process.

Despite being in Lucknow, where his team is scheduled to take on the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, the LSG skipper will not be playing the game. Instead, Krunal Pandya, who assumed the responsibility of the captain in Rahul’s absence is expected to lead the side against the Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday.
