Chamari Athapaththu Likely to Miss T20I Series Against Ireland  for Women’s Hundred Commitment

Sri Lankan Women’s teams are all set to travel to Ireland for their maiden T20I series. The series will start from August 11. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu will miss the upcoming T20I series in Ireland. She will be unavailable due to her commitments with the Oval Invincibles in the Women’s Hundred.

Athapaththu Will Be Out of Action in T20Is:

In the recently ended Women’s Asia Cup 2024, the Sri Lankan Women’s team lifted their maiden trophy by defeating India Women’s. Throughout the tournament, they showcased their excellence and secured their maiden trophy under Chamari Athapaththu’s leadership. The captain led the team from the front and because of her outstanding contribution throughout the tournament, she was awarded the Player of the Tournament. 

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu will miss the T20I series in Ireland due to her commitment to Oval Invincibles in The Hundred. She will play in all the group stage matches for the Invincibles, with the final group game scheduled for August 14.

The T20I series for Sri Lanka is set for August 11 and 13, creating a schedule overlap. Athapaththu will join the Sri Lankan team for the ODI series after her commitments with the Invincibles are complete.

The Replacement of the Player:

Youngster Kaushini Nuthyangana returns to the squad after being dropped from the Asia Cup. She will replace Chamari Athapaththu, who is unavailable due to her commitment with the Oval Invincibles during the T20I series. The tour of Ireland starts with two T20Is on August 11 and 13. The ODI series will then begin on August 16.
