India will need their 2 star players KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah to return to competitive cricket as early as possible. With World Cup just around the corner, India will desperately want them to get fit. Both of them are at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru undergoing rehabilitation. According to the Indian Express, both of them are likely to return for the Asia Cup in September.
Bumrah injury status
Bumrah, who had back surgery in March, is said to have already begun bowling at the NCA nets, and his recovery is said to be going well thus far. The pacer could be match-fit for India’s August visit to Ireland, but the Indian team management and medical team are not in a hurry since they want him for the World Cup. The 29-year-old hasn’t played competitive cricket since last September because of a persistent back issue. After the problem returned during the home season in January, Bumrah was advised to undergo surgery for the back-stress reaction, and he is gradually increasing his bowling activity after finishing his recovery.
It is understood that the pacer has not complained of any discomfort since resuming bowling earlier this month, and there is discussion over whether to send him to Ireland with a second-string side.
KL Rahul Injury Status
Rahul, who underwent surgery after hurting his right thigh during the IPL in May, is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Rahul, who has been India’s stand-out batsman in the ODI side at No 5 and is being considered as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the World Cup, is expected to begin skill-based training by mid-July. There’s a chance the 31-year-old may be ready for the T20Is against Ireland, which begin on August 18 and end on August 23. However, like Bumrah, India has not set a return date because the World Cup takes precedence. India are looking at Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav as backup option for KL Rahul for the number 5 spot.
