Cricket Australia Requests Rescheduling of Test Series Against Bangladesh for 150-Year Anniversary Celebration

Cricket Australia (CA) has formally approached the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) with a request to reschedule the upcoming two-match Test series originally planned for the 2027 season. The proposed alteration aims to move the series from March 2027 to August-September of 2026. This adjustment aligns with Australia’s ambitious plan to host two Test matches in Melbourne, including a special Test marking the 150-year anniversary against England in the summer of 2026-27.

The request also hints at CA’s intention to extend the three-match Test series against New Zealand, which precedes the scheduled series against Bangladesh. The desire to celebrate the significant milestone of 150 years in Australian cricket appears to be a driving force behind this request.

BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed the request, stating, “They (CA) have requested us to reschedule it (tour for the Test series in 2027), but it is still under discussion. They have a plan to celebrate their 150-year anniversary, and that is a national commitment, and due to that, they want to reschedule the Test series against us and are working on that.”

Bangladesh, having earned Test status, has had limited exposure to Test cricket in Australia. Their last Test series in Australia was in 2003, consisting of two games. Subsequent attempts to schedule Test series against Australia faced challenges, with the 2018 tour cancellation due to broadcaster indifference and the 2020 series postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
