The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for the highly anticipated inauguration of its new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The state-of-the-art facility, which boasts an impressive array of amenities, is set to be unveiled later this week, marking a significant milestone in the development of Indian cricket.
A Cricketing Oasis in Bengaluru
The new NCA, located near the city’s international airport, has been a subject of excitement among cricket enthusiasts and officials alike. Former India captain and current BCCI Apex Council member Dilip Vengsarkar, who visited the academy last week, expressed his delight at the facility’s progress. “It is a fantastic infrastructure,” he remarked, highlighting the three grounds, 45 practice pitches, eight indoor nets, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 16,000-square-foot gym, and a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center.
Vengsarkar, who had traveled to Bengaluru to inspect the academy, noted that the grounds are ready and look beautiful, with the main ground featuring an 85-yard boundary. “It is all state of the art and almost ready,” he added, confident that the remaining work will be completed before the inauguration on Friday.

A Hub for Cricketing Excellence
The new NCA is poised to become a hub for nurturing cricketing talent in India. With its world-class facilities and dedicated training grounds, the academy aims to provide the best possible environment for current and future cricketers to hone their skills.
The Apex Council members and representatives from BCCI’s state units have been invited to attend the opening ceremony, which will take place a day before the Annual General Meeting.
Expansion in the Northeast
In addition to the Bengaluru NCA, the BCCI has also made significant progress in developing indoor cricket academies in six Northeastern states. The foundation stones for these projects were laid back in May, and Vengsarkar confirmed that the work is progressing as per schedule.
These academies, located in Shillong, Itanagar, Kohima, Aizawl, Imphal, and Gangtok, will serve players from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim, further expanding the BCCI’s reach and commitment to grassroots cricket development.
While the focus remains on the new NCA, the BCCI has also decided to undertake a renovation of its headquarters in Mumbai. Vengsarkar noted that the renovation is not extensive, as the office has not undergone significant changes in a long time.
