“I Was Left Embarrassed”: Wasim Akram Slams Pakistan For 2024 Home Test Series Defeat 

In the just finished Bangladesh Test series, Pakistan’s legendary player Wasim Akram acknowledged feeling ashamed of his team for losing two straight games at home from positions of victory. Pakistan, reeling from an abject few months in all forms of cricket, lost 0-2 to a weak Bangladeshi team, sending them to their lowest point.

Pakistan lost the first Test of the series to Bangladesh, and they then suffered another heartbreaking loss in the second Test. Pakistan did, however, have the chance to win both Tests.Prematurely ending the first innings of the first Test at 448/6, they chose not to bat Bangladesh out of the match. Pakistan was bowled out for 146 in the second innings, which made Bangladesh’s chase of 30 in the fourth innings seem easy. This tactic backfired on Pakistan.

In the second Test, Pakistan made the same error, allowing Bangladesh to score 262 from 26/6 in the first innings before losing for 172 in the second. Wasim Akram couldn’t understand why Pakistan couldn’t build on their success in the first two Tests.

“It’s a huge setback and out cricket is at a crossroads. For a former player and captain and a lover of the game, I was left embarrassed at the way they have lost from good positions. I simply don’t get it. We are losing consistently on home turf and that says a lot about the quality of our cricket,” said Akram.

Wasim Akram On Quality Of Pakistani cricket

Wasim Akram acknowledged that they had no fallback choices in the event of injuries or a reduction in player quality due to the dearth of talent in Pakistan’s home circuit.Since Shan Masood took over as Test captain at the conclusion of the previous year, the team has not won a Test match. Babar Azam was replaced.

“The quality of our cricket has gone down with no grassroots activity, so we do not have proper back-ups. We have a lot to work on. As a cricket nation, we have to be patient, that’s the key. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix,” said Akram.

Pakistan’s next task is a three-match home series against an in-form England team beginning on October 7. The battle only gets harder from there.
