ICC World Cup 2023: India’s Anthem and Jersey Changes Ignite Excitement

The countdown to the ICC World Cup 2023 has reached its final stages, and cricket fans around the globe are buzzing with anticipation. Recently, the International Cricket Council (ICC) added a touch of musical flair to the upcoming tournament by launching the official anthem, ‘Dil Jashn Bole.’ However, it garnered mixed reactions on social media, igniting debates among fans.

Adidas Unveils “Impossible Nahi Ye Sapna, 3 Ka Dream Hai Apna” Anthem

But that wasn’t the end of the musical excitement. Just a few hours later, India’s kit partner, Adidas, stepped into the spotlight with their own anthem dedicated to the Indian cricket team. The 2-minute 21-second anthem, titled “Impossible Nahi Ye Sapna, 3 Ka Dream Hai Apna” (It’s not impossible, it’s our dream of the third World Cup), aims to capture India’s ambition to secure their third ODI World Cup.

India’s journey in ODI World Cups has been marked by moments of historic significance. Kapil Dev led the Indian team to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 1983, a moment etched in cricketing folklore. The nation had to wait until 2011 for their second triumph, when MS Dhoni‘s leadership brought the coveted trophy back home. It’s worth noting that India also clinched the ICC World T20 title in 2007.

Star-Studded Adidas Anthem

The Adidas anthem features some of India’s cricketing superstars, including captain Rohit Sharma, batting sensation Virat Kohli, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, rising star Shubman Gill, pace bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The anthem’s message resonates with the desire to put an end to India’s quest for another ICC trophy.

The BCCI tweeted, “1983 – the spark. 2011 – the glory. 2023 – the dream. Impossible nahi yeh sapna, #3kaDream hai apna.”

Apart from the catchy anthem, the video offers a sneak peek at India’s World Cup jersey, which features a notable change from the recently-concluded Asia Cup. Instead of the three white stripes over the shoulder, India’s tri-color flag graces the jersey. The jerseys worn by Rohit, Kohli, and others in the video sported orange, white, and green stripes on the shoulder, a design that has garnered praise from fans.

The alterations in India’s World Cup jersey don’t end there. Unlike the Asia Cup jersey, the World Cup jersey will not feature the Dream11 logo, as ICC regulations permit only the team’s name to be displayed in the centre.

India: A Strong Contender

Despite not clinching an ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013, India enters the ODI World Cup as one of the favourites. The team’s strength, recent form, and familiarity with home conditions make them a formidable contender. India’s comprehensive victory in the Asia Cup, securing their eighth title, served as ideal preparation for the World Cup.

The journey begins on October 8, when the two-time ODI World Cup champions take on Australia in Chennai. The tournament opener will feature England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad, a rematch of the final from the last edition.
