Just a few days to go for a long Test series. After a long time, Team India and England will play a five-match Test series on Indian soil. After a long break, Test cricket is back in India. Both teams are well geared up and ready. The first match of the series will take place in Hyderabad on January 25. Before the series starts, former English player Nasser Hussain considers India a favorite for the series. But the is not going to take the England team lightly.
Nasser Hussain on India:
England faces a daunting task in the upcoming five-match Test series against India, marking a significant challenge for the team since the leadership change with Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. Their unconventional Test approach has yielded success, but the spin-friendly Indian conditions pose a massive hurdle. Former skipper Nasser Hussain acknowledges India as favorites but doesn’t discount England, noting the team’s resilience under Stokes. The battle intensifies, with a keen eye on India’s strategy, particularly with Bazball looming in their minds.
On this matter, he said, “India are the favorites, but every single challenge Bazball has faced they’ve stuck to their guns, and Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s record is seriously good, I wouldn’t write them off. Bazball has been very successful, especially at home and the two toughest places to tour are India or Australia. It’s going to be a massive challenge for England.”
Later he added, “India want to see how this new approach will work at home. It will be fascinating cricket and will be interesting to see how this particular side will go against what is one of the great cricketing outfits at the moment, which is the India side.”
Michael Atherton’s Words on This Series:
After a long time, Test cricket madness is back in India. In Indian conditions, spin can give any team the ultimate success. India’s pitches are spin-friendly. England need to be very careful about this throughout the series. Michael Atherton, the ex-England player, is optimistic about Rohit Sharma’s team clinching victory in the upcoming five-match series against England. According to Atherton, India’s formidable spin bowling lineup will play a crucial role in determining the series outcome.
Atherton said, “If you go to India, spin will play a big part, it historically has done and I suspect it always will do. India do have a very strong seam attack as well. I think India will win. Their spinners are better than England’s and that will be the defining thing in the end.”
