After defeating Australia for the record 4th time consecutively in a test series, the Indian team would once again be locking horns with the Aussies for the three-match ODI series to hone their white-ball skills ahead of the ODI World Cup this year. The two teams have met each other in 143 encounters before this out of which, 53 have been won by India, 80 by Australia and 10 have concurred ‘No Results’.
Indian Team News
For India, Captain Rohit Sharma will not be available for the first game as he is taking some personal time off. In his absence, Hardik Pandya will lead the team. There’s also a huge question mark regarding Shreyas Iyer’s participation in the ODI series. The right-handed batter complained of back spasms during the third day of the final Test match against Australia and was ‘absent hurt’ during India’s batting.
There hasn’t been any clarity over the nature of his injury so far. The Indian team management has also not named a replacement for him. There are still 2 days remaining for the series to start and maybe the team management would come up with a replacement for Iyer, along with the updates on his injury.
Australian Team News
Australia will miss the services of their regular Captain Pat Cummins as he had flown to be with his family after the Second Test Match. The 29-year-old suffered the loss of his mother during the fourth test match and thus will not be available for the ODI series against India. Earlier, he had also pulled out of the IPL before the auction.
In Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith will lead the squad for the ODI series. Smith has captained Australia prior as well before he was sacked after being caught in the Sandpaper incident. Apart from that, the Australian team has added a lot of fresh faces who were not a part of the Test series.
Australia’s white-ball specialists Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Sean Abbott, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Josh Inglis, and Ashton Agar will be making a comeback into the squad. David Warner will also be looking forward to forgetting the Test series and making a comeback during the ODI series.
