Injured Abrar Ahmed Out of T20I Series Against New Zealand, Heads Home for Rehab at NCA

After ending the World Cup, Pakistan traveled to Australia to play a three-match Test series. In the first two Test matches, Pakistan faced defeat. From January 3, they will lock horns against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In this series, they are struggling on the Australian soil. After that, they will play a T20 series against New Zealand. Before that, team Pakistan received a setback. 

Abrar Ahmed Injury and Update:

Before playing the Test series against Australia, Pakistan played a match against President XI. Abrar Ahmed felt uneasy in his right leg after bowling eight overs in a four-day match against Prime Minister’s XI. He left the field and underwent an MRI scan. Due to his discomfort, 25-year-old spinner Sajid Khan joined the Pakistan squad as a backup for the injured Ahmed in the Australia Tests. 

The injury woes continue for the Pakistani bowler. After being injured, he missed the whole Test series against Australia. Now he is on his way to miss the T20 series against New Zealand. As per the reports, he has not fully recovered from the injury. The bowler will return to Pakistan and continue his rehab in Lahore.

PCB’s Statement and Pakistan’s T20 Squad:

The Pakistan Cricket Board gave an official update on this matter. On their social media handle, PCB wrote, “Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed will not be able to participate in the five-match T20 series against New Zealand due to not being fully fit. He is returning home where his rehab will continue at the National Cricket Academy.”

Pakistan will travel to New Zealand to play a five-match T20 series. The series will kick off on January 12 in Auckland. The last T20 match of the series will be played on January 21 in Christchurch. The other three matches will be played in Hamilton and Dunedin. 

Pakistan’s squad for the next T20 match is Shaheen Shah Afridi (c), Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Zaman Khan, Aamir Jamal, Azam Khan (wk), Sahibzada Farhan, Haseebullah Khan (wk) and Abbas Afridi.
