The entire cricket world is enjoying the T20 World Cup in 2024. But right after the tournament, Team India will be touring Zimbabwe in a five-match T20 series. A young squad is set to face Zimbabwe. Among some uncapped players, Sunrisers Hyderabad player Nitish Kumar Reddy was set to make his debut in that series. But now, he will miss the series due to an injury and Shivam Dube is all set to replace him in the squad.
Nitish Kumar Reddy is Out of Zimbabwe Tour:
Right after the T20 World Cup 2024, Team India will travel to Zimbabwe for a T20 series. The series will arrange five T20 matches. As the senior players will be rested, BCCI has opted for a young squad for this tour. As Shubman Gill is set to lead the team, youngsters like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy, and others were set to make their debut for India in this series.
But weeks prior to this series, Nitish Kumar Reddy faced a setback. Reddy has sustained an injury, and the BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition. The severity of the injury is still unknown. This setback is unfortunate for the young player, who had high hopes of making an impact on the international stage after his impressive performance in IPL 2024 with SRH.
Shivam Dube Replaced Him and Updated Squad:
Shivam Dube has replaced the youngster in the squad. Shivam Dube, already part of the Indian team at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, gets another opportunity to showcase his talent after being included in the squad. His presence at the tournament makes him an ideal replacement for this series, giving him another chance to impress.
In a statement, BCCI said, “The Men’s Selection Committee named Shivam Dube as replacement for the injured Nitish Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe.”
The series is set to kick off on July 6 in Harare. The updated squad of Team India contains Ꮪhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube.
