During a media interaction, Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Simon Katich hinted at the possibility of making the proteas legend stand behind the wickets in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2020 is scheduled to be held in the UAE and teams have already reached there with most of the members.
ABDV to keep for RCB?
As per the plan discussed by Simon Katich, the head coach of Bangalore based IPL franchise spoke about how AB de Villiers will have a big role to play in the upcoming season. With his deep experience at the highest level how ABDV could be a valuable player in the squad, Katich shared his thoughts on the same.
“Obviously we’ve had a lot of discussions around the makeup of our team. AB has kept wickets in South Africa before so I’m sure that will be a topic for discussion. But what is the right balance in these conditions will also come into play. He’s got a huge role to play for us, given the number of performances over the years for RCB and South Africa.”
ABDV, still a dependable name
ABDV has experience of keeping wickets for the franchise in the past. In the IPL 2020, Josh Philippe was signed by the side as the second keeper-batter along with Parthiv Patel. ABDV who has been a consistent support to Virat Kohli in IPL for RCB, with his 24-ball 61 proved his worth again in the 3TC Solidarity Cup in South Africa. Katich mentioned the same while explaining about his possible versatile role in the IPL 2020.

“We know he’s a world-class performer and he’s had a fantastic tournament, where he led his team to a win in the 3TC competition. He’s coming in confident on the back of that and I’m sure, knowing his love for his franchise and playing with the players at RCB, he’s going to be excited by this prospect. We’ll see what happens with his job behind the stumps and with the bat.”
