IPL 2023: Here’s the reason why Quinton de Kock is not playing today’s IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore

The fifteenth game of the Indian Premier League is set to be played between KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants and Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore . Lucknow Super Giants have won the toss and decided to bowl first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore today. However, the match has been marred by the absence of Quinton de Kock for Lucknow Super Giants.

Mayers over De Kock

On March 31 and April 2, the South African cricket team had played two crucial 50-over matches against the Netherlands as part of the ICC World Cup qualifiers. These games were of significant importance to the Proteas as they will determine whether or not they qualify for the upcoming World Cup. As a result, Quinton de Kock, one of South Africa’s top players, had to prioritize these matches over his commitments to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Even though Lucknow Super Giants could have used the services of Quinton de Kock for their opening game, the batter had to miss the game due to existing team combination. LSG have played West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers instead of de Kock who will open the innings with LSG captain KL Rahul. In de Cock’s absence, Nicholas Pooran will don the gloves behind the stumps. Both Mayers and Pooran have been doing a good job for LSG.

When will De Kock be back?

In De Lock’s absence, Kyle Mayers played the first few games for the team and has been performing very well as the opener of the team. Thus, the team management decided to go with him, trying not to disturb the winning combination. Mayers took everyone with a surprise in his debut game at the IPL when he smashed a quickfire 73 off 38 balls, and has been a part of the LSG camp ever since.
