At the IPL 2023 mini-auction on Friday, Rajasthan Royals acquired West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder for INR 5.75 crore (December 23). To cover every base before the 2023 season, they also recruited South African wicketkeeper-batter Donovan Ferreira for a fee of INR 50 lakh and renowned Australian spinner Adam Zampa for his base price of INR 1.5 million. They unexpectedly signed former England captain Joe Root for a basic fee of INR 1 crore to top off the day.
At a basic fee of INR 20 lakh, they also signed Rajasthani batter Kunal Rathore, age 20. The Royals were one of the busiest teams in the most recent expedited round thanks to the base price signings of Murugan Ashwin, KM Asif, Akash Vashisht, and Abdul PA. Root, who went unsold in the main round, was unexpectedly signed by the Royals in the most recent expedited round for a base price of INR 1 crore.
