Before the match, Suryakumar Yadav discussed his experiences playing under Rohit Sharma. He shared valuable captaincy tactics he learned from him.
Suryakumar Yadav on His Captaincy Learnings:
After lifting the T20 World Cup trophy on June 29, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format. After that, Suryakumar Yadav took the charge. Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy debut become special with a 3-0 win in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Now, under his captaincy, Team India registered a victory in the first T20I match against Bangladesh.
Before stepping into the second match of the series, Suryakumar Yadav opened up about his captaincy learnings from Rohit Sharma. Team India’s T20I captain said, “Watching Rohit Sharma bat in the Kanpur Test felt like the T20 series had already started. It was a perfect Rohit Sharma-style approach.”
Later he added, “Very few teams can force a result after losing over two days of play, but winning the Kanpur Test was a testament to great captaincy and leadership. I’ve learned a lot about captaincy from Rohit, and I hope to apply those lessons in my own leadership.”
Reflecting on His New Role:
After Rohit Sharma’s exit from T20I, Suryakumar Yadav took the helm of the team for the shortest format. After that, he gave a great start to his captaincy career as Team India whitewashed Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series. Recently, he reflected on his new role. He said, “I’m really enjoying the new role. Our coach and my teammates have made it easy for me to lead and I have been feeling very positive about my new responsibility.”

Later he added, “At the same time, I don’t want captaincy to change my character, so I want to continue playing the way I’ve always played, and remain the same both on and off the field.”

After former Indian coach Rahul Dravid ended his tenure, Gautam Gambhir took the responsibility. As he took the charge of the team in the limited over series against Sri Lanka, Siuryakumar Yadav also started his role as Team India’s T20I skipper. The coach-captain duo secured dominating T20I series win against the hosts.
While talking about his bonding with Gautam Gambhir, the captain said, “Coach Gambhir and I share a special bond. He has always backed my abilities, and I can never forget that. Even when I don’t express something to him, he somehow manages to understand me just by my body language or by looking into my eyes, which is really special.”
