Jasprit Bumrah reached New Zealand for his back surgery

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been flown to New Zealand to treat his back injury. According to reports, Bumrah will undergo his surgery in the next couple of days.

Who will treat Jasprit Bumrah?

Rowan Schouten, a surgeon who had previously worked on England pacer Jofra Archer, has been chosen by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) management and the medical staff of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Formerly, Schouten collaborated with famous orthopedic surgeon Grahame Inglis, who performed surgery on a number of New Zealand athletes, notably Shane Bond.

According to the report, Schouten supported Inglis during the operation of Australian pacer James Pattinson and also managed Ben Dwarshuis and Jason Behrendorff, both of whom had experienced back problems.

Bumrah will miss the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and the World Test Championship (WTC) final in London, should India advance, due to his 20–24 week rehabilitation period.

In 2019, team India player Jasprit Bumrah‘s body suffered from playing consistently in all three forms. Since then he has been in and out of the side. Bumrah was vulnerable to injuries due to his short 14-step runup, peculiar slingy movement, and constant bowling speed of above 140kph. The worst injury a cricketer might foresee is a back ailment. If you are a quick bowler, it practically guarantees the end of your career.

The 29-year-old bowling prodigy was anticipated to rejoin the squad during the ongoing Border Gavaskar Series between Australia and India. His exclusion from the Test series was due to the team management’s unwillingness to gamble with his fitness. He was also supposed to play in the IPL in 2023, but a trip to the NCA showed that the pacer needed back surgery and was so disqualified from competing in the top franchise tournament.

Bumrah last featured for India in an ODI series against England on 14th July 2022. Since then he has missed the Asia Cup, the World Cup, and many important matches for team India.
