KL Rahul Gets Support from Indian Cricket Team Captain; Kohli Calls Him a Champion Player

KL Rahul has had few tough outings in the T20I cricket but he still has the support of the team captain. Virat Kohli, in the post-match presentation ceremony spoke about the champion player that KL is.

KL Rahul was dismissed on duck in the first over of the match. This was the second consecutive time that saw him getting dismissed for a duck in last two T20Is against England. KL Rahul who was considered to be the finest Indian T20I bat before the pandemic, has been going through a tough phase since the Australia tour. Kohli had informed ahead of the series that KL Rahul would be opening the innings along with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan would be rested. However, KL Rahul failed to give the momentum that Indian team required at the top in the previous matches.

Virat Kohli was asked about the poor form of KL Rahul. Kohli said, “He (KL Rahul) has been a champions player. He’ll continue to be one of our main players along with Rohit at the top of the order. It’s a matter of five-six balls in this format.”

Kohli Speaks on His Lean Phases

Kohli recalled his lean phases as well while speaking about KL Rahul. “I was going through a lean patch two days back.” The captain however went to score two back-to-back unbeaten scores in last two matches that helped Indian side. Kohli while speaking about the defeat also spoke about the England bowlers who were brilliant with the new ball according to him.

Speaking on the pitch, the captain of the home team opined, “It was a bit difficult to bat against the new ball. Their bowlers were hitting good areas. We got one little partnership, it was important for me to bat deep. The case was to get set and try to get a decent total. I was going through a lean patch two days back.”
