He has taken the most catches in T20 history being an Indian player.

In a significant feat during the IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Virat Kohli, the stalwart of RCB, etched another milestone in his illustrious career. Kohli surpassed the former Indian cricketer and Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina‘s record for the most number of catches by an Indian fielder in the history of T20 cricket. With 173 catches, Kohli surpassed Raina’s previous record of 172 catches, showcasing his exceptional fielding prowess.

The momentous achievement occurred when Kohli claimed a catch off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery in the third over of Punjab Kings’ innings. Kohli’s 173rd catch came from the bat of Punjab Kings’ opener Jonny Bairstow, solidifying his position at the top of the list of Indians with the most catches in T20 cricket. Bairstow attempted to loft the ball over mid-off but ended up mistiming his shot, resulting in a catch for Kohli, who swiftly moved in from his fielding position at cover to claim the dismissal.
