Mumbai Indians have announced the legendary Lasith Malinga as their Bowling Coach. Malinga, known for his iconic performances at the Wankhede Stadium, will be part of the coaching team led by Mark Boucher and Kieron Pollard.
Malinga joins the MI Camp
Ahead of the IPL season starting on 22nd January, the Bowling legend joined the Mumbai Camp. The franchise posted the caption “Slinga Malinga is here”.
This appointment marks Malinga’s third role within the Mumbai Indians family, following his stints as Bowling Coach for MI New York in Major League Cricket and MI Cape Town in SA20. Expressing his gratitude, Malinga said, “It is truly an honour for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians, and my journey in the #OneFamily continues. I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit, and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan.”
Malinga has been a vital part of Mumbai Indians for close to 13 years, starting in 2008 as a player. He also served as the MI bowling mentor in IPL 2018 and was the MI NY Bowling Coach in 2023. His contribution to the team includes seven trophies (4 IPL, 2 CLT20, 1 MLC as a bowling coach) and numerous match-winning performances.
The announcement was met with excitement from fans, with many looking forward to seeing Malinga’s expertise and experience benefit the team in the upcoming IPL season.
