MCC President Hails Jay Shah as Cricket’s Most Powerful Man

MCC President Mark Nicholas has recognized Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as the most influential figure in global cricket. In a recent statement, Nicholas acknowledged Shah’s substantial impact on the sport, emphasizing the pivotal role he plays in shaping cricket’s future.

Jay Shah’s leadership and strategic decisions have significantly contributed to the BCCI‘s dominance in the cricketing world. His influence extends beyond the administration of Indian cricket, affecting global cricketing policies and dynamics.

Jay Shah has held significant roles in cricket administration. He joined the BCCI’s finance and marketing committees in 2015 and was elected BCCI secretary in 2019, becoming the youngest office bearer. In 2022, he led the record-breaking IPL media rights deal worth Rs 48,390 crore. Shah became President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in January 2021 and was re-elected in January 2024. Internationally, he represents the BCCI in ICC meetings and was appointed as ICC Board Member Representative and head of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs committee in 2022. Shah played a key role in securing cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.

Nicholas’s acknowledgment highlights the importance of Shah’s contributions and underscores the growing recognition of India’s central role in the sport’s governance. With Shah at the helm, the BCCI continues to drive key initiatives and innovations, reinforcing its position as a powerhouse in international cricket.
