Leg spinner Piyush Chawla surely had a mindblowing career with the Mumbai Indians. After playing his first ODI for Team India in 2007, Piyush Chawla made his IPL debut in the year 2008 starting with Punjab Kings, formerly known as Kings XI Punjab and now with Mumbai Indians. Chawla started his stint with MI in 2021 when he was roped in by the franchise for an amount around 2 crores. Chawla had played for other IPL franchises as well including Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, the 35-year old spinner was also a part of Team India’s World Cup winning squad back then in 2011.
The boy who dismissed Tendulkar
Piyush Chawla caught everyone’s attention when he took the wicket of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar at the age of 16. Chawla has been the second highest wicket taking spinner in IPL history, with 157 scalps in a total of 165 games. His international career was not as progressive as the IPL one, but he made some breakthroughs in his international career as well.
A two time IPlL winner, has played a total of 181 matches for Mumbai Indians, scored 609 runs and took 179 wickets.The leg spinner has been retained in the 2023 edition as well and it will be interesting to see him register phenomenal records yet again.
Completing 1000+ wickets
The 35-year old spinner has added a stupendous record to his already existing list of records as he scalped a total of 1001 wickets. While he picked 445 wickets and 302 wickets in First Class and T20 Cricket, he picked up 254 wickets in List A. He stood as the first spinner for Mumbai Indians to register this mega record.
