In a recent World Cup clash between England and Bangladesh, fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman faced an injury scare that briefly halted the match’s proceedings. The incident occurred during his bowling spell when England’s Joe Root made a last-minute move, causing Rahman to abort his delivery stride.
England Openers Start Strong
During this Dharamsala encounter, England’s openers, Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan, got off to a rapid start. Having won the toss and choosing to bowl, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan watched as the English duo added 117 runs in just 107 balls. Notably, this match marked Bairstow’s 100th ODI, and he contributed a solid 59-ball 52 before being bowled by Shakib.
Following Bairstow’s dismissal, Joe Root partnered with Dawid Malan, and England continued to accumulate runs despite Shakib’s tactical bowling changes. After 22 overs, England had reached a score of 140-1.
Mustafizur’s Return and the Unfortunate Incident
At this point, Shakib recalled Mustafizur Rahman, who is often considered his team’s spearhead in the bowling department. Mustafizur had previously bowled his opening spell and conceded 28 runs from his first four overs. As he prepared to bowl again, Mustafizur ran in from over the wicket. However, Root, displaying quick reflexes, moved away at the last moment.
This sudden movement caught Mustafizur off guard. While he was already in his pre-delivery leap, he decided to abort his action mid-leap, leading to an awkward tumble and fall.
The incident immediately raised concerns, prompting the Bangladesh team’s physiotherapist to rush out to check on Mustafizur. After receiving some treatment, Mustafizur thankfully got back on his feet and resumed his bowling. In the subsequent over, he conceded three runs and two more in the following over.
A Video of the Incident Goes Viral
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video of this dramatic moment on Instagram, assuring fans that despite the tumble, Mustafizur Rahman was not injured. The caption read, “A lot happening there but thankfully Mustafizur Rahman is not hurt.”
