Nasser Hussain showers praise on young Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ascent to success has been nothing short of remarkable over the past few months, primarily fueled by his exceptional performance with the bat during IPL 2023. His outstanding display during the T20 tournament saw him etch his name into the record books, amassing an impressive 625 runs – the highest tally ever achieved by an uncapped batsman in the history of the league. This exceptional feat paved the way for his national team selection, resulting in his inclusion as a reserve for the World Test Championship final in 2023.

At just 21 years of age, Jaiswal’s exceptional skills and diverse range of strokes have captured attention on a global scale. Nasser Hussain, former England captain, recently expressed admiration for the young cricketer, highlighting a conversation he had with Ricky Ponting about Jaiswal’s remarkable talent.

Nasser Hussain said

From what I’ve seen…he’s (Jaiswal) made a fantastic start. You speak to people who have seen him in the IPL, again I’ve been working with Ricky (Ponting) and Dinesh (Karthik) came over, and you ask questions, and they all go, yeah, this lad can play,” Hussain said in the ICC Review.

Hussain also acknowledged the significant role played by the Indian first-class cricket system and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in consistently nurturing and producing high-quality cricketing talents one after another.

“He looks to have the technique and he looks to have that mindset. Like most young Indian players and batters in particular, most of them come in and have immediate success. And that is a good sign for first-class cricket, that they are being produced, not just the IPL,” he added.

Remarkably, Jaiswal’s international journey took off with an impressive start as he delivered a stunning century on his debut in the opening Test of the recent two-match series against the West Indies in Dominica. Displaying his remarkable skills, the left-handed batsman compiled a magnificent score of 171 from 387 balls, etching his name as the 17th Indian cricketer to achieve a century on his Test debut. Furthermore, he also marked his entry into T20 International cricket during the third T20I of the same series.

However, his impact in the T20I debut was limited, as he was dismissed for a mere 1 run from 2 balls in the initial over itself. With the upcoming fourth match of the series scheduled for Saturday, August 12, the young talent hailing from Uttar Pradesh will be determined to make a strong comeback and contribute significantly to his team’s performance.
