Orange Cap Holder of IPL 2023: Updated After MI vs PBKS Match 31

The day saw two of the most intense games in the season. In the first game, Gujarat Titans defended a low total of 135 runs in a game that went till the very last over. In the second game, Punjab thrashed Mumbai Indians by 13 runs in a game that saw 415 runs being made. However, there have been only slight changes in the Purple Cap list after today’s doubleheader. 

KL Rahul enters the race

KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, has finally entered his name in the race for the Orange Cap. Even though his team ended on the losing side, Rahul’s 68 off 61 balls was the talk of the town. KL Rahul completed his 50 in just 38 balls but after that, the boundaries just dried up. Accused of stat-padding and playing a major role in LSG’s defeat, Rahul has entered the top 10 of the Orange Cap,  being at the 4th spot currently with 262 runs in 7 games at an average of 37.43. 

Mayers moves up as well

KL Rahul’s opening partner Kyle Mayers has moved up 3 spots as well. After his outing against the Gujarat Titans today, Mayers is now in the 7th spot with 243 runs in 7 games at an average of 34.71. Opening the batting with KL Rahul today, Mayers scored an important 24 runs and put up a valuable partnership of 55 runs for the first wicket. Despite that, Lucknow Super Giants lost the game in the final over, leaving everyone wondering where things went wrong for the team.

RCB’s captain Faf du Plessis is still at the top with 343 runs in 6 games. He is 58 runs ahead of David Warner who is second on the list. Shubman Gill has fled from the top 10 after his duck against the Lucknow Super Giants today. Shikhar Dhawan, however, is surviving by a bare margin, and is currently on the 10th spot even after missing out on the last 2 games.
