After the defeat against the West Indies in the fifth T20I, Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid shared his perspective on the squad’s batting depth and his outlook for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. The West Indies convincingly outperformed the Indian team, securing an eight-wicket victory and winning the series 3-2.
Following this significant loss, Coach Dravid emphasized that the management is actively working to address the batting issues in order to strengthen the team’s lineup. Furthermore, he mentioned that the composition of the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup will exhibit some differences in comparison to the one that played against the West Indies in the series.
Rahul Dravid said
“Our squad (for the World Cup) will be a little different to what we have here. In terms of the squad that we had here, it didn’t allow us the flexibility to have the combination to allow us to make the changes. Going forward, we will have to look at certain areas where we can get better,” the head coach told after a crushing series loss.
“Finding depth in our batting is an area that we are trying to address and do as best as we possibly can. But that’s certainly an area that we need to look at, how we can not weaken our bowling attack but have a certain depth in our batting that can go deeper. As the game is going on, the scores are becoming bigger and bigger,” he added.
Dravid also looked back on the ODI series, explaining that the team’s management made several adjustments to the setup with the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup in sight. Notably, Team India managed to secure a 2-1 victory in the three-match ODI series.
“We tried to do a few things (in the ODI series) with the World Cup and the Asia Cup coming up. The goals of that (ODI series) were slightly different from what we wanted to achieve, and glad there were some important lessons from that one-day series and got the right result,” expressed Dravid.
