Rahul Tewatia offers support to struggling Yash Dayal

Rinku Singh of Kolkata took Yash Dayal to the cleaners on Sunday against Gujarat Titans. Dayal, who was a bright spot in GT’s championship-winning campaign the previous year, was devastated after being beaten by Rinku Singh, who helped KKR chase down 29 runs in the last over.

Mohit Sharma took his position in GT’s subsequent game against the Punjab Kings. The seasoned Indian bowler made his IPL comeback with a 2 for 18 performance and was named Player of the Match. Tewatia, however, promised a powerful comeback for Dayal.

Rahul Tewatia is skilled at managing pressure in the final over. Nobody has had a higher success rate in the last three years than Tewatia when it comes to last-over finishes. He was possibly the ideal person to approach teammate Yash Dayal after Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders hammered him for five consecutive sixes in the final over of an IPL 2023 match. After all, Tewatia had given Punjab Kings pacer Sheldon Cottrell the same treatment during the IPL 2020, although in the 18th over.

Tewatia talks about Yash Dayal

“He was one of our main bowlers. We became champion last season and he played a massive role in it. He bowled well with the new ball as well in the death last year,” Tewatia told the reporters.

“One match cannot change the fact of what he has done for us. I don’t think anyone in the team has given him any sympathy,” he added.

“I told him, ‘One match has gone bad. If you want to go down then only you can hit the rock bottom otherwise at GT no one will ever make you feel bad about it. Keep practicing and execute what didn’t happen that day and wait for your chance. This is the worst, you can’t go any lower than this,” he said.

Tewatia has been a revelation for Gujarat since the last year. He would look to finish games for his side and help them win the title for second consecutive time.
