Former cricketer RP Singh anticipates that Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson will be kept on as captains for the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the IPL mega auction. Singh believes that both players have demonstrated strong leadership qualities and significant potential to guide their respective teams. Retaining these captains could provide stability and continuity, which are crucial as franchises prepare for the upcoming season. Their leadership experience will be vital as they look to enhance their teams’ performances in the highly competitive league.

He also believes that explosive opener Jake Fraser-McGurk will be retained by the Delhi Capitals. Fraser-McGurk has emerged as a potential successor to David Warner, having impressed with 330 runs at an impressive strike rate of 234.04 in this year’s IPL for the Capitals. His remarkable performance showcases his ability to make significant contributions at the top of the order, making him a valuable asset for the franchise moving forward.

Despite a slow start to his T20I career for Australia following David Warner’s retirement after this year’s T20 World Cup, Fraser-McGurk made a strong statement by scoring a fifty against England in a T20I match in Cardiff. This performance highlighted his undeniable talent and potential, reinforcing his status as a strong candidate for retention by the Capitals. His ability to rise to the occasion underscores why he remains an important asset for the franchise.
He said, “ Jake Fraser-McGurk will definitely stay due to his unique play style and the impact he’s had on this franchise. Rishabh Pant is going to be retained as the captain. The two spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, will stay. For the others, you can use the RTM because many franchises will release players with the hopes of using the RTM.”
He also revealed his preferred retention choices for the Rajasthan Royals, outlining the players he believes should be kept on the roster as the team prepares for the upcoming season. He added, “ Sanju Samson will be retained as captain, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be No. 2, Riyan Parag will stay at No. 3, Jos Buttler at No. 4, and the fifth would be Yuzvendra Chahal or Trent Boult. Boult is a great option, but I would lean towards Chahal. The RTM is an option, but I think retaining Sandeep Sharma as an uncapped player will make it easier for them as he has performed well for them as a bowler.”
Teams must finalize their retention decisions by October 31 in preparation for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Each of the ten franchises has the option to retain up to six players from their IPL 2024 roster. This includes a maximum of five capped players, whether Indian or overseas, as well as up to two uncapped players, allowing teams to strategically shape their squads for the upcoming season.
