Sanju Samson lit up the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on October 12, 2024, with a breathtaking knock of 111 runs from just 47 balls in the third T20I against Bangladesh. His explosive innings, which included reaching his maiden T20I century in just 40 balls, was the second-fastest T20I century by an Indian batter.
Upon his return to Thiruvananthapuram, Samson was welcomed with a traditional ‘Ponnada’ (honorary shawl) by Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor, who has been a consistent supporter of Samson.
Tharoor celebrated Samson’s achievement on social media, expressing his delight at honoring the cricketer and praising his return to form after a period of struggles.

Samson’s innings came at a crucial time, following a lean patch in international cricket. Tharoor, known for his vocal backing of the Kerala-born cricketer, had previously criticized the Indian selection committee for sidelining Samson despite his past performances. Tharoor once again showed his unwavering support for Samson, reinforcing his belief that the 29-year-old deserves more opportunities at the international level.
