“She’s so composed” McGrath Hails Sutherland’s Composed Bowling Performance in Brilliant Win Against India Women

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is taking interesting turns with some excellence of the world-class teams. Last night, Sharjah Cricket Stadium witnessed a thrilling encounter between India Women and Australia Women. After securing a 9-run win against the India Women, the Aussies secured their place in the semifinal stage. After the match, the stand-in Australian captain Tahila McGrath talked about some brilliant performances of her side.

McGrath on Sutherland’s Exceptional Bowling Display:

While defending the total, young Australian bowler Annabel Sutherland showcased her remarkable bowling display. Annabel had an impressive final over, defending 14 runs and taking two wickets while giving away just 22 runs. At a crucial moment, she dismissed both Pooja Vastrakar and Radha Yadav. Earlier, in the first innings, she showcased her batting skills with a quick-fire knock of 10 runs off 6 balls. Her all-around performance was vital for her team’s success.

While praising the young talent, McGrath said, “She’s so composed. She knew her plan, she executed beautifully. I said to her after, ‘how was your heart rate?’ and she goes, ‘no I was fine, I was chill as’ so I think that just shows the type of maturity that Belsey has.”

Later she added, “She’s been in those big moments and delivered for us time and time again, even at the back end with some handy runs for us. She was huge for us today and very cool under pressure.”

On Injury Scare:

Before the toss, Cricket Australia announced that Healy would miss the match due to a foot injury. She sustained the injury during the game against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 13. Healy limped off the field while chasing an 83-run target, having scored 37 runs. Tayla Vlaeminck also got injured. Their absence was a significant setback for the Australian team.

While talking about this, McGrath said, “There’s been a lot going on. Friday night, that was a tough night for us and a lot to process but in tournaments like this it’s move on, you’ve got a job to do.”

Later she said, “We’ve been really trying to get around each other as a group, whether it be the injured girls, the girls playing slightly different roles, and just really sticking together as a group and focusing on the job at hand. I thought we did a really good job of that and came out and played really well tonight. I’m really proud of the group.”

Reflecting on the Crowd’s Energy:

The Sunday was extra special at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The entire stadium was packed up by the fans for the IND W vs AUS W match. The crowd enjoyed a thrilling encounter. But the Indian fans were heartbroken at the end. They faced a 9-run defeat and their semifinal dream almost ended with that.

While talking about the electrifying energy of the stadium, McGrath said, “It was very loud. We’re quite used to that now whenever we play against India. Lots of it was about just making eye contact with bowlers and trying to get everyone to look at me because trying to tell bowlers they’ll bowl the next over or move fielders, is almost impossible with that noise.”

Later she added, “But for us it’s almost trying to ignore the crowd at times because they can make you seem like you’re behind the game when you maybe might not be. They’re so passionate, cheer so loud and we love it but at times you can think that the game’s getting away from you just with how loud the crowds cheering so it’s just about staying level-headed, staying focused and getting a good read on the game.”
