Former Indian pacer Siddarth Kaul has turned over a new leaf. The Punjab pacer had announced his retirement from Indian Cricket earlier this week. Post that, Siddarth Kaul has now joined the State Bank of India (SBI) in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 branch. Where others might shift to commentary or become coaches, Siddarth has undertaken an altogether different road.
Kaul, 34, has been with SBI since 2017 even before he made his India debut. With cricketing commitments now coming towards an end, the former Punjab pacer has more time on his hands to devote to his job. He was even promoted in 2020.
Siddarth Kaul’s Career
Siddarth Kaul was a key player in Virat Kohli’s Under-19 World Cup-winning team in 2008. Yet, it took another decade of hard work in domestic cricket to earn his senior India cap.
Debuting in 2018, Kaul represented India in three ODIs and three T20Is. He took four wickets in total. Kaul’s international cricket was very short. However, he was the backbone of Punjab’s success in domestic cricket. In 88 first-class matches, he took 297 wickets and had 17 five-wicket hauls. He is even Punjab’s highest wicket-taker at the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Siddarth Kaul Transitions to SBI
For Kaul, SBI has been more than just a fallback—it’s been a parallel career. “I’ve been balancing my cricket and banking responsibilities since 2017,” Kaul shared in a heartfelt Instagram post announcing his retirement. “Now, with more time at hand, I’m excited to contribute more actively to my role at SBI.”
Kaul’s involvement in SBI extends beyond office work. He has even represented their team in several corporate leagues.
Siddarth Kaul has only retired from Cricket in India. However, he hasn’t shut the door on cricket completely. He is still open to playing abroad. That could be county cricket or leagues such as Major League Cricket (MLC) and Legends League. “I feel I have a few more years of cricket left in me,” he told ESPNcricinfo.
Kaul recently impressed during his stint with Northamptonshire in England’s county circuit. He bagged 13 wickets in three matches.
