The 55th match for IPL 2024 has come to a conclusion, and what a match it was. As the match progressed, the likelihood of either of the teams winning kept changing with time. However it was Mumbai Indians who ultimately managed to bag a win against their opponents for the day, Sun Risers Hyderabad.
MI won the toss, wherein their captain opted to bowl first. The decision might have seemed a poorly made one, considering how well SRH has performed as the batters in the first innings.
As the match progressed, MI curbing the SRH runs at 173 and managing to score 174 while still having 7 wickets intact showed how the Mumbai Indians can put on a good game.
MI has now jumped up from the last position at the points table, giving their previous spot to Gujarat Titans instead. SRH on the other hand, maintains its position at the 4th spot.
“Think we gave 10-15 runs extra” Says Pandya
Even though MI won the match, their new captain Hardik Pandya seems to seek even better outcomes. The Indian cricketer spoke in his post-match interview about how he thought that MI gave the other team 10-15 Runs extra.
“We want to focus on playing good cricket, still think we gave 10-15 runs extra. The way our batters batted, that was excellent. My bowling, I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Bowled in the right areas today and it worked. I was like Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side. He (Chawla) had to be accurate, the margin of errors have become smaller these days for the bowlers.” Said Pandya
Praising the day’s POTM and fellow teammate Surya Kumar Yadav, Pandya added, “It’s unbelievable, the best past of SKY is that he puts the bowlers under pressure. It’s sheer confidence, his game has changed, is one of the best batters. He can change a game in a different way, lucky to have him (SKY) in our side.”
SKY scores another century
Today’s Player Of The Match title was given to MI batsman Suryakumar Yadav. The cricketer, also known by the name SKY has repeatedly shown up for the Mumbai team.
Yadav didn’t only get praised by his team captain, but the opposition captain Pat Cummims also commended him for his spectacular innings.
SKY also now has the third highest number of centuries as a lower order batsman, with 4 T20 centuries to his name.
