In the cricket world, MS Dhoni is an all-time legend. Apart from his unmatchable cricket, he is famous for his cool nature. With immense calmness and composure, he can change the game. That’s why fans love to call him ‘Captain Cool’. But recently, his former teammate Suresh Raina revealed an incident when MS Dhoni lost his cool.
The Incident:
MS Dhoni, renowned for his cool demeanor, had a rare moment of losing his temper, as revealed by former teammate Suresh Raina. Raina recalled an incident during the IPL 2014 season when CSK faced Punjab Kings in the second Qualifier. Despite Virender Sehwag‘s explosive 122 off 58 balls, CSK fell short by 24 runs, with Raina’s 87 off 25 balls and Dhoni’s 42 off 31 balls not enough to secure victory.
In the match at Wankhede Stadium, CSK lost early wickets but Raina’s blazing 87 kept their hopes alive until his dismissal. Despite Dhoni’s efforts to steer the team, CSK couldn’t clinch the win, leading to Dhoni’s rare outburst. This incident sheds light on the competitive intensity of IPL matches, even affecting the usually composed Dhoni.
Raina’s Words:
Raina disclosed that Dhoni, usually composed, was left fuming post-match, tossing his gear in the dressing room. He expressed dismay over CSK’s batting performance, highlighting the need for more runs. This rare display of emotion from Dhoni sheds light on the intensity of IPL matches and the high expectations placed on players like him.
He said, “I have never seen Dhoni that angry. He vented it out after that match. He was like ‘we don’t score runs, we don’t do this, that’. He threw his pads and helmet in the dressing room. He was irritated that we lost a match that we should have won. He was angry because we lost a match that we shouldn’t have. Otherwise, we would have won the IPL that year as well.”
While talking about his knock, Suresh Raina said, “The previous day, I had a dream I would do something special. I was seeing the ball well. The ball hitting the bat, there was a different kind of sound and I felt like nothing could stop me.”
