“They Are Defending Champions” West Indies Skipper Rovman Powell Praises England Ahead Of Big Match

England and West Indies are set to face off against each other for a match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as both teams have now been promoted to the Super Eight out of the 20 participants. West Indies skipper Rovman Powell praised team England and agreed that they have a “very good team”.

The Super Eight stage will be played at 4 locations in the West Indies, with the first match starting on 19 June between South Africa and USA in Antigua. West Indies and England will also engage in a match on the same day, in Saint Lucia.

The teams that have qualified for the Super Eight after beating the other competitors in the Group stage are:

Group A: India and USA, Group B: Australia and England, Group C: West Indies and Afghanistan, Group D: South Africa and Bangladesh

Rovman Powell hails team England

Ahead of his side’s match against England, West Indies captain Rovman Powell has shown his admiration for his competitors, claiming that the team is a very good one.

“I think the conditions are pretty good. It’s good for batting, it’s good for bowling, it makes for very good cricket. when you look on the English team, they are defending champions. And, they are a very good team. And so, it’s for us now to just sit and find some plans and see how those plans can work against them,” Powell said.

West Indies is the co-host of the T20 World Cup 2024 alongside USA. The 8 teams in Super Eight are now going to be divided into two groups. Group A has India, Australia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh. USA, England, West Indies, South Africa are in Group B.

Rovman on his relationship with West Indies coach

Rovman Powell was further asked about his relationship with head coach Daren Sammy, the Caribbean skipper said that they are on the same page.

“I think we have a very good relationship, whenever the captain and coach are in sync, he normally gets success, the problems come when the captain is on a totally different page as the coach.” Rovman said.

“And for the last 12 months or so when I took over as captain there and I’ve been very encouraging you have been very good very helpful for me and a part of my success a part of the team successes is have to go to Sammy, I think he has been good so far,” he added.
