In a remarkable T20I series against South Africa, Tilak Varma made history by scoring back-to-back centuries. 

In the fourth T20I, the young Indian batter smashed an outstanding 120 runs off just 47 balls, securing a dominant 135-run victory for India. 

His knock featured a stunning strike rate of 255.32, including nine boundaries and ten sixes. 

This performance earned him the Player of the Match award, a testament to his explosive form.

Despite his historic achievement, Tilak Varma shared a funny anecdote from his earlier visit to South Africa. 

He recalled how he got out on the first ball during a match last year. 

“Last year when I played here, I got out on the first ball. This innings was very crucial for the team and the series.”

Speaking about his approach, he added: “I just focused on holding my shape and sticking to the basics from the last game. I stayed calm. It’s an unbelievable feeling—I can’t express it right now

With his centuries in this series, the 22-year-old made amends for that early setback.

Mental Approach and Dedication to Team Effort

Tilak explained that his approach to the game was simple: focus on staying calm and sticking to the basics. 

He credited his success to his trust in the process, especially after recovering from an injury. 

“I never imagined scoring two centuries in South Africa under challenging conditions. Thanks to our captain Surya for his support. As I mentioned after the last game, I was injured in recent matches, but I trust in God and my processes. That’s why I celebrated this way, dedicating it to God.” said Tilak

His performance was also a team effort, with Tilak thanking captain Suryakumar Yadav for his unwavering support throughout the series. 

Tilak’s resilience, paired with his explosive batting, is a clear sign of his growing confidence at the international level.
