Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, fresh off India’s victorious campaign in the T20 World Cup, has officially assumed the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana. Siraj took on the new role in a formal ceremony held at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Hyderabad, under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender and other senior officials.
The 30-year-old cricketer, known for his fiery pace and match-winning spells, has been a pivotal figure in Indian cricket. His contributions were key to India’s success in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Barbados, where he consistently bowled crucial spells to lead India to victory. In recognition of his sporting achievements, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy bestowed upon Siraj a prestigious 600-square-yard plot in the upscale Jubilee Hills locality of Hyderabad. The Chief Minister also granted Siraj an exemption from the usual educational qualifications required for the DSP position.
Recognition of Excellence
During the ceremony, CM Reddy lauded Siraj’s journey from a humble background to international stardom, calling him an inspiration for millions of young people across India. “For a Group-I job, the required educational qualification is a degree. Siraj has passed intermediate (12th class), but we have made an exception in recognition of his outstanding service to the nation through his cricketing accomplishments,” said CM Reddy.
Siraj, who debuted for India in Australia during the 2020-21 Test series, has quickly risen through the ranks to become one of India’s premier fast bowlers. His contributions across all formats of the game have made him a regular fixture in the Indian squad, second only to pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Over the years, Siraj has donned the Indian jersey in 29 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is, amassing 78, 71, and 14 wickets respectively.

Siraj’s appointment as DSP is not just an honorary title; he will be taking on real responsibilities in the Telangana Police Force. During the ceremony, Siraj expressed his gratitude to the state government and the people of Telangana for their unwavering support throughout his career.
T20 World Cup Heroics
Siraj’s appointment follows his stellar performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he played a pivotal role in India’s bowling attack. Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways and deliver at high speeds, Siraj’s contributions were crucial in India’s title run, which saw them lift the trophy for the first time since 2007.
His leadership on the field during the tournament earned him accolades from fans and cricket experts alike. Siraj bowled crucial overs in several knockout games, maintaining a disciplined line and length that rattled even the most accomplished of batsmen.
