The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) hosted a spectacular celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the Wankhede Stadium. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri were present on stage. Team India captain Rohit Sharma also shared the stage with these stars. The Champions Trophy was also brought on display.

In a video making rounds on social media, Gavaskar and Shastri were seen urging Rohit to move closer to the trophy. However, Rohit graciously declined, letting the veterans take the spotlight. The Champions Trophy was positioned prominently. Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri were at the front and center. However, Rohit Sharma was seen standing on the side.

Rohit Expresses His Desire to Bring the Trophy Home

While speaking at the event, Rohit couldn’t hide his ambitions for the upcoming Champions Trophy. “We will embark on another tournament. When we reach Dubai, the wishes of 140 crore people will be behind us. We will try and do everything we can to bring this trophy back here to the Wankhede,” said the Indian skipper.

India famously celebrated their 2024 T20 World Cup win with a bus parade along Marine Drive. That historic celebration concluded at Wankhede, a venue that holds a special place in Indian cricket history.

India’s Champions Trophy Squad

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma had announced India’s 15-man squad on January 18 in Mumbai.

Team India Full Squad for Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma (capt), Shubman Gill (vice-capt), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja.

India will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. They will next play arch-rivals Pakistan on 23rd February. The group stage concludes with a game against New Zealand on March 2.
