Andre Russell, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and Akeal Hosein have opted out of West Indies’ T20I squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The West Indies selectors have called up Evin Lewis, marking his return to the white-ball side after his last T20I in 2022. Terrance Hinds and Shamar Springer have also been given their first international call-ups after impressive performances in the CPL 2024.
Brandon King, who missed part of the T20 World Cup due to injury, has returned to the T20I squad. The team will be led by Rovman Powell, with Roston Chase serving as vice-captain. West Indies coach Daren Sammy emphasized that this tour will allow the team to test their depth and assess players in different conditions, especially with key players opting out for rest and recovery.
In the ODI squad, 17-year-old Jewel Andrew has made a breakthrough, potentially becoming the youngest West Indian to debut in ODI cricket. He has caught the attention of cricket greats such as Viv Richards and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, following a strong performance in the CPL. The ODI side will be captained by Shai Hope, with Alzarri Joseph as his deputy.
