Harbhajan Singh has thrown his support behind Karun Nair. Nair has been in incredible form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Vidarbha skipper has shattered records. He has scored 752 runs in seven innings at an astonishing average of 752. The right-handed batter has also scored five centuries in the tournament.
Harbhajan voiced his disappointment with the selectors, criticizing their preference for IPL performances over domestic cricket. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said, “It’s unfair. Many are selected based on just two games or IPL performances. Why are the rules different for Karun Nair? Those who are playing and scoring in Ranji or Vijay Hazare… why are they ignored?”

The former spinner also highlighted Karun Nair’s stellar past performances, including his historic triple century in a Test against England in 2016. “I never understood how he (Karun Nair) was dropped after a triple century. It pains me that no one talks about players like him,” Harbhajan added.
With the Champions Trophy squad yet to be finalized, Karun Nair’s recent form has made him a strong contender. Reports suggest that selectors are keeping an eye on the batter, who has played two ODIs and six Tests since his debut in 2016. Nair’s match-winning 88 not out in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal against Maharashtra further strengthened his case.
Karun Nair’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign has been nothing short of extraordinary. He has struck his runs at a brisk strike rate of 120.07. Vidarbha’s journey in the tournament, led by Nair’s exceptional performances, has been historic. They now face Karnataka in the final, where Nair will once again be key.
Harbhajan didn’t hold back when discussing the treatment of domestic players. “People say players like Rohit and Virat are out of form and send them to Ranji. But what about those who are already performing there? When will they get their chances?” he questioned.
