WPL 2023 Orange Cap: Meg Lanning tops the charts after her back to back fifties

Delhi Capitals beat the UP Warriorz by 42 runs yesterday. With this win, they now move up to 2nd position in the points table. The Capitals captain Meg Lanning is leading from the front in both matches scoring 2 half-centuries. Lanning scored a blistering knock of 72 from 43 balls against the RCB in their first match. Yesterday, she 70 runs off 42 balls giving Delhi their second win in a row. With 2 half centuries, Lanning is now the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 142 runs and now holds the orange cap. 

Second in the chart is Hayley Matthews with 124 runs. The player of the match for her team was Hayley Matthews, an all-rounder who took three wickets in the first innings to aid Mumbai in holding Bangalore to only 155 runs in 18.4 overs.

With 13 fours and a lone six, Hayley Matthews scored an undefeated 77 runs off 38 deliveries to help her team chase down the target in only 14.2 overs.

Shafali Verma has scored 101 runs in the tournament and is in the third position. The Indian opener missed out on a big score yesterday as she got dismissed for 17 despite looking threatening.

Tahila McGrath leaped up to 4th place with her knock of 90* against Delhi Capitals yesterday. She was the lone wolf for the UP Warriorz and her efforts were not enough to gain victory for the UP franchise. 

Nat Scavier is leaving up to the hype and expectations so far in the tournament. The English all-rounder is in 5th place with 78 runs at a massive strike rate of 165.96. She is followed by MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur with 65 runs in 1 inning.

The tournament has been high scoring with flat pitches and quick outfields. In the first 2 matches, a score in excess of 200 was scored.
