In his recent spectacular display of batting against Bangladesh, India’s star-studded young sensation and right arm batsman Shubhman Gill single-handedly took India’s march forward to the required run chase.
The 24-year old batsman hit a century against Bangladesh during the second innings of the match. By slamming his 5th ODI century in this year, Gill achieved a significant milestone for crossing the
1000-run mark in ODI cricket for the year 2023.
Bangladesh gave a target chase of 226 in its final Super 4 game of the Asia Cup 2023. Whilst casing the required target, Shubhman alone scored 121 runs off 133 balls.
A calm approach by Gil
Notwithstanding Sri Lankan bowlers’ firm play in the game, India lost several wickets during the first few overs of its innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was knocked off in the first over followed by Virat Kohli and other batters in the lineup.
Shubhman took the pressure with ease and his calm display and dedication made his teammates cheer for him. He exhibited a ton century against Bangladesh and put all efforts to take India to the finish line.
Remarking on Gill’s valuable contribution, Indian cricket commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle tweeted, “Shubman Gill’s innings highlights why he is a fantastic batter but also why he is still work in progress. What a player he will be when he starts finishing such games”.
Standing like a firm rock
No Indian batsmen could remain in the game for a longer period of time than KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav who along with Gill stitched a commendable partnership of 57 runs and 45 runs respectively.
Setting up new records
Shubhman Gill has now booked his name in the record books for being the highest scorer in the Asia Cup 2023, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis.
Reacting to Gill’s excellent batting performance, all the fans including cricket officials, fellow teammates and others took to their twitter handle to express their gratitude for such vigilant efforts by him.
The Men in Blue is all set to face Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup finals in R Premadasa Stadium located in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
