Akash Deep on Rohit Sharma’s Impact and Leadership Skills

Akash Deep, new key member of India’s Test team spoke in detail about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy during Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He explained how the India Test team captain made things simple for him.

“He is the greatest captain”

Speaking to Dainik Jagran, Akash Deep who has been a mainstay for Indian team since last few months, remarked about the impactful leadership of Rohit Sharma. He said, “I got the opportunity to play under Rohit Bhai’s captaincy, and I consider myself fortunate. Rohit Bhai keeps things so simple that I never felt like I had just begun my international career.”

He added, “I have played in domestic cricket and the IPL, and back then, I thought the international level would be much more challenging. But the way Rohit Bhai simplified everything made it very easy for the players. I believe he is the greatest captain.”

How Rohit Sharma helped Akash Deep

Not just with Dainik Jagran, even during an interview with PTI, Akash Deep praised Rohit Sharma for showing trust in him. “Rohit bhaiyya had a lot of trust in me that I can take wickets anytime, ‘Woh bolte hai hai ki mujhko lagta hai tum har ball pe wicket le sakte ho. I would be given a brief that in case I am not getting wickets, I should do the holding job at one end, slow down the game and run-flow so that things are under control.”

He added, “My endeavour was to maintain discipline, bowl in good areas and wait for the batter to make a mistake…doesn’t matter if the ball is new, semi-new or old.”

The new mainstay of India’s pace attack could not feature in first two games and missed the final Test at Sydney due to injury. He played two Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Brisbane and Melbourne and managed to take five wickets at an average of 54.
