The 24th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will see five-time World Cup champions Australia locking horns with Netherlands. The much anticipated match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in India’s capital, Delhi. Australia has played a total of four matches since the commencement of the tournament and registered an equal amount of wins and losses. It emerged victorious against Pakistan and Sri Lanka while got defeated by South Africa and India in its World Cup opener. Talking about Netherlands, the Dutch have also played four matches, posting three defeats and a magnificent and unexpected win against the Proteas. The Dutch had a bitter taste of defeat against India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
McDonald on beating Netherlands
Ahead of the match against Netherlands on October 25, team Australia coach, Andrew McDonald figured out that the Dutch cannot be taken lightly after it defeated South Africa in an action-packed match which was played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Netherlands registered victory against the Proteas by a convincing margin of 38 runs.
On this McDonald asserted, “I think the Netherlands have shown against South Africa what they’re capable of, and they have got some really good players in decent form as well. Even coming into the tournament, you don’t take anyone lightly. There’s a lot to be gained out of impressive performances against teams that you’re saying that we should beat. They are sitting in their camp saying we’ve got an opportunity to knock Australia over. We have got a few little moving parts.”
Facing New Zealand thereafter
Though Australia’s focus should be primarily on beating New Zealand, McDonald affirmed that their main focus is the Dutch currently. He confirmed that though they have got a big gap after Netherlands to face the Kiwis, the team won’t be resting now and prove their ability to play off well in the remainder of the 2023 World Cup.
