Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with the Indian cricket team today before their two-day warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI. The game is to start on November 30 at Canberra’s Manuka Oval. Albanese shared pictures on Instagram with some of the Indian cricket superstars including the captain, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill among others.
The meeting served as a precursor to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian PM, however, praised the Indian side but refused to change his decision in support of the Australian side. “Big challenge ahead for the PM’s XI at Manuka Oval this week against an amazing Indian side. But as I said to PM @narendramodi, I’m backing the Aussies to get the job done, Albanese posted on Instagram.
Team India Ready for Warm-up Game
Rohit Sharma, rejuvenated by personal celebrations after his second child was born, has reported back to the Indian team. Already into net practice, the Indian captain is getting ready to take on the warm-up game and the day-night Test at Adelaide Oval from December 6.
The Prime Ministers XI, under the captaincy of Jack Edwards, is ready for the highly competitive game with the Indian Team. The warm-up match will give the Indian team to test their strength ahead of the Second Test.
India’s Resounding Comeback in Perth Test
Team India’s meeting with the Australian Prime Minister comes after a spectacular win in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth. Bowed out for a meagre 150 runs in their first innings, India crushed Australia by a vast margin of 295 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, who was acting as a leader in the Perth Test, played an excellent innings, taking eight wickets across both innings.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal did most of the damage in batting. The opening pair put 201 runs in the second innings. Virat Kohli added his 81st century to take India to a dominating total of 487/6 declared, leaving Australia with a target of 534 runs. Australia collapsed under pressure and Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj broke their batting. Not even Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh could withstand the assault of the Indian bowling arsenal.
A small loss for India is the departure of their head coach Gautam Gambhir to India during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, it has been confirmed by BCCI that Gambhir will rejoin the team before the Adelaide Test.
