Bangladesh Skipper Shanto Responds to Mayank Yadav’s Debut Ahead of 2nd T20I

After wrapping up the Test series with a dominating 2-0 margin, Team India is facing Bangladesh in a three-match T20 series. After securing a thrilling win in the first T20I, Team India is leading the series by a 1-0 margin. In the first match, debutant bowler Mayank Yadav grabbed the attention of his exceptional bowling performance. Before stepping into the second match, Bangladeshi skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto made a big remark about the young Indian bowler. 

Mayank Yadav’s Exceptional Debut:

After securing the Test series with a 2-0 victory, Team India was scheduled to face Bangladesh in a three-match T20 series. As the first T20I match of the series took place in Gwalior, Team India showcased exceptional performances on the big stage. While making a debut in the first match, Mayank Yadav showcased exceptional performances.

After a standout IPL 2024 season, Mayank Yadav earned his maiden call-up for India in the T20 series against Bangladesh. He received his debut cap from Murali Karthik, marking a special start to his international journey. Stepping onto the field during the final over of the powerplay, Mayank made an immediate impression with a thrilling maiden over.

In his second over, Mayank maintained his momentum. Just two balls into his second spell, he achieved a career milestone by taking his first international wicket, dismissing Mahmudullah for a mere 1 run. This early success set a promising tone for his career and was a memorable start for the young pacer.

Shanto’s Remark on Mayank Yadav: 

In the first T20I match, the Bangladeshi bowlers struggled against Mayank’s pace. Before stepping into the second T20 match, Bangladeshi skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto made a big remarks on Mayank Yadav.  Shanto noted that his team is accustomed to facing such a pace during net sessions. They are prepared for the challenges presented by fast bowlers like him.

He said, “We have some similar fast bowlers in the nets. I don’t think we were too worried about (Mayank Yadav). But he is a good bowler.”

Shanto on Their Batting performances:

In the first innings, Bangladesh batted in the first innings. While batting first, the Bangladeshi batters struggled. After losing the wickets of both the openers, the Bangladeshi middle order got broken in front of India’s bowling unit. They got all out in just 127 runs and they faced a defeat by 7 wickets.

Shanto openly acknowledged that his team struggles to regularly score 180-plus totals in T20 matches. He said, “We have the ability, but we have room for improvement in our skills. We have been batting in this way for the last 10 years. Sometimes we do well. We have to make some changes, perhaps where we practice back home.”

Lastly, he added, “We play on 140-150 wickets at home. Our batters don’t know how to score 180 runs. I won’t blame just the wickets, but we have to consider skills and mentality.”
