BCCI Finalizes Ranji Trophy Groups for 2024-25, Meghalaya Joins Elite Group After Great Season

Another exciting season of the prestigious Ranji Trophy is coming up. The Indian fans are all set to experience another thrilling domestic red ball season. The new edition of the tournament is raising its curtains on October 11. The BCCI has already finalized all groups. 32 teams are a part of the elite group and the rest six teams have been placed in the plate group. On an interesting note, Meghalaya has been entered into the elite group after showcasing exceptional performance in the last season. 

BCCI Unveils Groups for Ranji Trophy:

The classic competition in the Indian domestic cricket circuit is coming back. The prestigious Ranji Trophy is coming back with yet another thrilling season. On October 11, the new season of the tournament is unfolding on the big stage. Before that, the BCCI finalized the groups as 32 elite teams were divided into 4 groups and there was another group rest 6 teams who will play as the plate group. 

The Elite A is decked up with six teams who will face each other in intense clashes. Last year’s Ranji Champion Mumbai has been positioned in group A along with Baroda, Service, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Meghalaya. The fans will see some intense face-off in this group. 

Team B is also owning some mighty teams. Last year’s Ranji Trophy runner-up Vidarbha is there in the group B. along with them, Andhra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttrakhand, Pondicherry, Himachal Pradesh, and Hyderabad are there in the Elite B group.

Who Are There in Elite C and D?

As the fans are witnessing some mighty teams in the Elite A and B, Elite C and D are not running behind. They have also been decked up with some formidable forces. In Elite C, 2022 Ranji Trophy champion Madya Pradesh is gracing the spot. The rest teams in the group are Karnataka, Haryana, Bengal, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar. 

Elite D is also holding some big names who are ready to give each other tough competition. 2022-23 Ranji Trophy champion Saurashtra is there in the team. Along with the team, Tamil Nadu, Railways, Delhi, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and Chandigarh are gracing the team. 

Meghalaya Inked Their Name in Elite Group:

As the Elite Groups are ready to showcase some thrilling cricket actions in the longest format, there is a special member. Meghalaya has earned a spot in the Elite Group this season following an impressive performance in the Plate Group during 2023-24. They finished as runners-up, losing to Hyderabad in the final match. Throughout the season, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and consistency, making a strong case for their promotion.

The plate group is consisting six teams. Goa and Manipur will compete in the Plate Group this year. They have been relegated from the previous division. Along with them, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh are there in the plate Group. 

The Plate Group includes six teams competing in knockout matches. The top two teams will move up to the Elite Groups for the next season. Meanwhile, the bottom two teams from each of the four Elite Group tables will drop down to the Plate Group in the following season. This system ensures a competitive balance and offers teams a chance for promotion or a risk of relegation.
