Held from 26th March to 29th May 2022, the league showcased thrilling matches across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune during the group stage. The Chennai Super Kings entered as defending champions, aiming to maintain their dominance after securing their fourth title in the preceding season. What happened in the last season?
In the IPL 2021 season, the Chennai Super Kings emerged victorious, clinching their fourth title by defeating the Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. This win added to their previous championships in 2010, 2011, and 2018. The final, held at the Dubai International Stadium, was a well-fought contest, showcasing the Chennai Super Kings’ consistent performance throughout the season. Faf du Plessis played a pivotal role in the final, earning the Man of the Match award for his crucial innings. Harshal Patel of the Royal Challengers Bangalore was honored as the Man of the Series for his exceptional performance throughout the season, where he claimed the Purple Cap as the leading wicket-taker. What’s new in IPL 2022?
In IPL 2022, the league expanded with the addition of two new franchises, marking a significant development in the tournament’s history:
Lucknow Super Giants: Owned by Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group, the Lucknow Super Giants entered the IPL fray with high expectations. They aimed to establish themselves as formidable contenders right from their inaugural season, boasting a strong management team and ambitious plans to build a competitive squad.
Gujarat Titans: Owned by the CVC Capital Partners-led consortium, the Gujarat Titans also made their debut in IPL 2022. With a focus on blending cricketing expertise with strategic business acumen, the franchise sought to carve out a distinct identity in the competitive IPL landscape. They aimed to leverage Gujarat’s rich cricketing heritage and enthusiastic fan base to create a strong presence in the league.
