Dwayne Bravo, Andy Flower, and Dav Whatmore Support Inauguration of UAE’s 100-Ball Tournament

T20 legend Dwayne Bravo will serve as a mentor for the upcoming Elite Corporate Cricket Bash (ECCB), a 100-ball tournament set to debut in the UAE this November. Accompanying him on the advisory board will be esteemed coaches Andy Flower and Dav Whatmore, adding their expertise to the event. With this star-studded lineup of mentors and advisors, the ECCB aims to make a strong impression in its inaugural season. The tournament promises to bring a fresh and exciting format to the cricketing world.

A Brand New Tournament on the Way:

The Elite Corporate Cricket Bash (ECCB) was officially launched in Dubai on Sunday by Mazhar Khan, General Manager of Sharjah Cricket, alongside former Australia cricketer and World Cup-winning coach Dav Whatmore, and Andrew Russell, Development Manager of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB).

The tournament will feature 12 teams competing in 36 matches over a span of 10 days. With a prize pool of USD 351,000, this exciting event promises to deliver high-stakes competition and showcase top-level talent in the UAE. In an official press release, it was stated, “ The 100-ball format offers something fresh and exciting, and I’m thrilled to see it making its debut in the UAE.”

Format of the Tournament:

The 100-ball format, popularized by The Hundred in the UK, will feature matches with five-ball overs, bowled by five different bowlers, each allowed a maximum of four overs. This fast-paced style adds a unique twist to traditional cricket.

As a hub for shorter formats, the UAE is set to introduce this dynamic 100-ball format with the launch of the Elite Corporate Cricket Bash. This marks the format’s debut in the region, further enriching the variety of cricket played in the country.

Cricket has seen different formats over the years, including eight-ball overs in Australia, which ended in 1979 when six-ball overs became the norm. In 2021, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) introduced “The Hundred,” their own franchise-based 100-ball tournament. Now, the Elite Corporate Cricket Bash (ECCB), set to debut in November, will bring this exciting 100-ball format to the UAE, adding another innovative twist to the sport’s evolving formats.

The Elite Corporate Cricket Bash (ECCB), organized by Petromann Sports Management, Sharjah Cricket Council, and Emirates Cricket Board, offers 10 days of thrilling cricket with Dh1.3 million in prize money. This groundbreaking league is set to elevate UAE cricket by creating a professional platform for top domestic players to showcase their skills. Designed to highlight emerging talent, ECCB aims to bring international-level excitement and exposure to the UAE’s domestic cricket scene.
